Appointments
To book an appointment please phone 0844 477 2588. There will be a member of staff available from 08:00 to 18:00 Monday to Friday to answer your call. We will try to ensure that you see a doctor of your choice. However, due to heavy demand, annual leave, training, sickness etc, this may not always be possible. To ensure that you obtain an appointment of your choice, please phone as early as you can, if your preferred GP is not available our staff will offer you an appointment with another GP, alternatively you will be offered the next available appointment with the requested GP. We can offer you two types of appointments.
Routine Appointments: These are for non-urgent problems. If you have several problems to discuss, please tell the receptionist when booking, as a longer appointment may be required.
Rapid Access: These are for new medical problems only. These are available on the day of booking and are of a shorter duration. These appointments only permit time to deal effectively with one issue. We recommend you make a further appointment to discuss a non-urgent problem.
We do our best to keep waiting times to a minimum but, as you can appreciate; urgent problems do arise unexpectedly and may delay the surgery timing. In these exceptional circumstances our receptionists will endeavour to keep you informed and give you the option to cancel and re-book your appointment. We would ask that you arrive promptly for your appointment.
Numerous appointments are wasted every week by non-attendance. This is not only a waste of the doctors’ and nurses’ time but also causes inconvenience and delays to other patients.
If you are unable to keep an appointment, please advise the surgery as soon as possible.
You can leave a message on our automated phone system outside surgery hours on 0844 477 2588 advising us of your need to cancel an appointment.
Repeated failure to cancel appointments, without a valid reason, will result in your removal from our medical list.
Home Visits and Telephone Calls
Home visits are reserved for the genuinely house bound or for situations where the doctor feels that assessment at home is required. These visits are at the doctors’ discretion. If you feel that a home visit is required, please phone 0844 477 2588 before 10.30am.
Alternatively if you need to speak to a doctor please ring as early as you can and the doctor will return your call as soon as possible during the course of the working day. Our receptionists will only transfer a phone call to the doctor during surgery in exceptional urgent circumstances since, as you can appreciate as a patient in the room yourself, constant interruption is frustrating for both patient and doctor and does not lend itself to a successful efficient consultation.
Test Results
Please telephone for test results between 2pm and 4pm Monday to Friday. Due to data protection we are unable to relay results to anyone other than the patient.
Accidents and Emergencies
In the event of a serious accident or medical emergency, call 999 without delay.
Remember, however, that the Ambulance Service is an overstretched resource, particularly out of hours, and that unnecessary non-urgent calls place an extra burden on Ambulance crews.
